You stuck your foot in it down below when responding to the thread about "what other software". You said you prefered AS2.5 over Trimble software for certain procedures. This makes you our current expert on the comparisons of how the two different software packages handle vector processing. I realize that even though the Ashtech reps on the board probably have extensive knowledge on the matter (of software comparison), they probably must remain "silent".

You don't have to remain silent. You have hereby been nominated to be the O.R.G.I. Software Analysis Guru to discover the answers and explain the wide variation of results between AS2.5 and "Yellow" on the O.R.G.I. 2 Experiment.

If there are no further nominations....

I don't claim to be an expert with either TGO or AS, just more familiar and comfortable with the latter. TM would be a much better candidate for the TGO stuff, but I'm game to try a limited ORGI experiment: processing a few vectors (like 3) into a single point, rather than attempting to do the whole network you guys have set up. (There have been so many stations mentioned that I can't come close to keeping them straight.) I'd do it in both TGO and AS, and report the results.

If interested, send me the files (or direct me to a web page or ftp server where I can get them) and I'll give it a go.

Jim,

What needs to be done can't be done by Trimbo. He does not have AS2.5. The rest of us participating in this experiment (as far as I know) do not have Trimble software.

My question has to do with final results. In my first L1/CORS mega-vector experiment , sessions 1-3, all my adjusted results fell within a very workable range. Not perfect, but centimeters. When others with Trimble software tried to process the same data, the results were no where near. This current test session seems to be showing the same phenomenom. When I solved for Jimbo's position and TM's positions, I had no idea what "target" I was aiming for. Given the poor constellation (at least in my area) during the session I though the results were fair at best. Then TM solves the same positions and ends up with a near "autonomous WAAS" quality position.

I'm not sure if TM stayed with the actual ORGI concepts when processing though. First use as much of the session time as possible, second use all surrounding CORS sites, and set mask angle for each vector as needed.

I would really appreciate your involvement to help answer some of these questions.

Jimbo can instruct you on how to obtain our individual ORGI session data files. We can each tell you which CORS sites we used.

Try POST with DQUA,ARL5 and BEA5..This is a pretty good triangle..

Looking forward to any results... I may be doing something (user induced) that is causing this anomoly...

Using GPS since the 1980's doesn't make me a resident expert although I feel quite competent with normal survey procedures...Maybe you can 'get out of the box' and direct me..

No offense was intended, and hope you didn't think otherwise. I'm just curious as to why we always seem to have such a wide variation in final results.

Also, I left WNFL in POST and JMBO to get the results I had. All vectors were at the least "partial" solutions, no "float" or "fail" were used.

What final coords did you get using only DQUA, ARL5 and BEA5 when solving for POST? And, are you setting a different mask angle for each individual vector for best results, or must you use a "global" mask angle? I don't even know how the Trimble software handles mask angles.

And as far as "expert status" goes, I still consider myself a rank green rookie.

No offense taken at all...We're all just trying to understand this beast...
I just hate to skew the results with my 'limited' knowledge and welcome some help...

Jim could be the reinforcement needed to either confirm of deny my results...

Fun stuff anyway..

Your Bud...

Plus-Bring a bag in two weeks and come to the OSLS convention...Heck...Even bring Shawn if he wants...I'll put you up... (but you could show up with some of that Stumpwater Brew!)..

Plus to all the Ashtech guys...

I realize that I post here at the mercy of the court...I really appreciate the opportunity to 'live' on this side of the board...
I hope that I never offend anyone with my name or comments, but to help better our understanding of the GPS system..

I do try and keep most of my comments generic, with the exception of the ORGI experiment, but so far this has proven AS to be better on the 'squish'..so doubt that even Ashtech would complain...

Anyone's welcome here unless they're trying to sell or troubleshoot non-Thales products. For my part, I think of green and yellowbox users as "unenlightened" pilgrims who may yet see the light.
