Four questions: Can the NAP 100 be used in the rain, can it be used in below freezing weather , can a longer cord be used to connect to the PM3 in the truck and any information on were to purchase a longer cord.
Thanks-John
Yes, it can be used in the rain, I have done so on occassion as well is below freezing temps. Longer cords are not available from Magellan for the NAP100, but you can probably purchase them from Western States Cabling. I haove purchased cables from them and they are GREAT. A link to their site is below.

John,
See the direct IP on the adjoining posts where I went into excessive detail about the antennas and cable.
basically the ans to the cable is yes and depending on what type of cable anywhere from about 30ft or so to about 60ft or so (with expensive cable) total distance - include your hookup cable in the length and keep the batteries as close to fully charged as possible or plug into the vehicle power.
If you make up a cable or have one made up with a TNC in and out you can then just attach your normal cable to it then the end of the long cable to the antenna. The cheaper cable (limited to about 30 ft is more flexible because of it's stranded center condoctor. the expensive cable is very non flexible because of the single center and very tough jacket.
I use all my equipment in all weather and with good results, temps from near 100F to -20F. In the very cold weather the batteries are the biggest issue, followed by the coax cable connections, and both can be overcome by a little protection from the wind or snow. When the LCD screen starts to fade I usually need to warm up anyway.
Two exceptions are when the snow or ice is building up substantially or when a thunder storm or thunder snow (and we seem to be getting thunder snow more often that I can remember ever getting)is arriving - the lightning on the near horizon really messes up the GPS signal.
