Does anyone know where I can get a data cable and a power cable for an Ashtech M XII receiver?
I use a 25 pin to 9 pin com adaptor. A 9 pin to 9 pin gender changer and a null modem cable. I think because I have it all packed away. It might be a straight not null cable, because there may be a swap in one of the other adaptors. I know I had a different 25-9 adaptor that would not work. Some com cables do not need the gender changer. They are cheap to acquire. Gather up a 25-9, the 2 different cables and a gender changer and play with it. Of course you really cannot tell unless you have something in the M-XII to download.
Do you have an antenna?

I just purchased an MXII off of ebay. It had an antenna, receiver antenna cable and batteries. I do not have a power cable or data cable. The power cable needs a 3-pin port on the receiver and the data has an 11 pin port on the receiver. So I need both cables to try this thing out.
11 pin port, is that round? That would be different from earlier M-XII. The Z-12 has a round 15 pin connector.
I just found one part it is a 25-25 gender changer then 1 25-9 adaptor that my null modem cable connects to. I am not sure if this is the one that worked or did not work. I have not gotten around to digging my M out.
Since the data connector is different describe the size of your power connector. Mine uses a Milspec amphenole 3 pin. Made by ITT Cannon available at Allied Electronics and others. Again I would need to dig it out. The amphenole milspec ITT Cannon number for my Z-12 cable to battery connector is MS3106E10SL-3P (3 pin). The extension cable has part number MS3106E10SL-3S (3 socket). The power end to the M-XII is of the same family but slightly different. The Z-12 end of that cable is smaller than the amphenol end. I bought one of the smaller connectors a few years ago. So again what size is your power connector?
Describe the batteries. Did you get a battery charger? I had a Z-12 charger go out, cost me about $100 a few months ago.

My recollection is the M (Marine)XII uses Fischer connectors as it is waterproof and the L (Land)XII uses the 25 pin horizontal connection.
For your 11 pin Fischer connection M XII you'll need Ashtech Part #700264 Rev. F; it has a metal jacket 9 pin connection on one end and a right angle 11 pin Fischer on the other.
I've only got one. :( Linda might have one or you might try that fellow that sells Ashtech cables on Ebay---I think he is in Michigan?---he might be able to build you one.

Thanks Dave, I did not know that. I will stop referring to my L-XII as an M-XII. I understood that the software was the same. I was never sure of the model number since mine is yellow and has a Topcon name and model number.
Paul,
If thats the case you've got an L (Lemon)XII.

Benson: What is the serial number and part numbers of the receiver you bought? If it's an early one you might not be able to do anything with it i.e. firmware uploads etc.

Dave, I've agreed to get him my M12 for parts and the 3 pin power cable, the 11 pin to 9 pin serial cable, two marklite batts, and the marklite charger kit.
I hope that helps get it working....
BTW, Dave, you got the antenna from that kit years ago.
My unit sucks power out of the marklite batteries unbelievably fast. I only use it at a location I can park and use my vehicle battery.
The data is as good as a ProMark 2. Best of all you can hook it up to your computer and even GNSS Solutions will download data from it. No need to fool around with anything else.
Bob,
If the rest of that kit is as clean as the antenna I got from you then thats some nice stuff. Has he (Benson) found an antenna yet? If he'll take a Papa Johns Pizza box delivery I suppose I could send him my infamous ground plane antenna.
I looked at the completed auctions on Ebay this afternoon and it appears the one that sold was an ME XII (700157) that doesn't use the round Fischer connectors but rather the horizontal pin type. From the docs I have handy I'd be surprised if it was L2 capable.

I have the nagging feeling that this stuff will work until the signals stop coming in 2020! I might not be able to carry it anymore but it will shine a beautiful blue sheen across the room when the sunlight coming through the office window reflects off it.
The serial No. is 700283
The serial number is below it.
BTW What comes after the 700283-__

on early Ashtech gear, as well as current Magellan/Thales gear and much more, in terms of advice and a source for odd pieces and parts:
That would be Linda Malcom and Creighton Smith.
Many of you already know them, but if you don't know how to contact them directly, send me an email per my profile and I will hook you up.
S/n is 1991
After the 700283-__ there should be a number 1 would indicate 1 Mb memory which is normal. If it is higher you have a real find.
