PM3 Sticking Keys
Posted By Topcon John on 2/28/2008 at 12:20 PM

I have 3 new PM3's (Magellan Professional) and 1 older PM3 (Thales Promark3).

On the 3 newer Promark 3's some of the keys will stick when depressed. I usually have to lift them with the stylus to have the keys become unstuck.

On the older PM3 (Thales logo) all of the keys feel a lot better and never stick.

Does anyone else have problems with the newer Magellan PM3 keys sticking when pressed?

Thanks

John

Duplicate points, wrong dates & more
Posted By fred youna on 2/28/2008 at 2:45 PM

PM3 OS 2.12
GPS firmware P009
GNSS v. 2.50.06
Download module 308kb dated 3.21.07

hard to explain, but here goes, new day new file and it labels it with xxxxx07.361 the very next session it labels it correctly xxxxx08.057

also, duplicates sessions, the receiver logs 2 files for the same session & same point.

GNSS internet download does not work.

Note* i have at least 10 years experience with locus, PM2 & Pm3's Ashtech Solution & GNSS solutions,so it's not procedure, what I want to hear is if any one has experienced any or all of these issues especially with above versions of firmware & software combos.

Thank you for reading

Fred,

Yes, users have experienced the wrong date issue, I am not sure about the duplicate point issue, that is a first I have heard of this particular problem.

I noticed you are using an old version of the PM3 firmware, I would suggest upgrading. You can follow the link below to download the most current version:

PM3 Firmware

As for GNSS Solutions Internet Download, it could be a firewall issue with your computer or network. Also, depending on the CORS, you may have to download the RINEX data directly from provider if it is part of a private network. I just tested the function and it worked properly.

Fred,

Yes, I've heard of the wrong date issue. Seems to not occur when the correct date and time are first verified on the position screen. It's never happened to me personaly, but I always check the position screen before I log anything....and curstomers who had collected data with a wrong date never had the problem again after I advised them of procedure.

I've also seen the duplicate point. It's easy to delete in the Workbook Points tab. I don't know exactly how it happens, but the customer agreed that they had not followed the procedure I'd given them .. had been trying something different, or had gotten confused in the field...bottom line, I don't know what they did.

Now for sticking keys. I believe that when the button is depressed, it's easy to slip it under the edge of the template, so schooching it a bit will pop it loose. Seems to occur on the new units, and goes away with use.

Just my 2 cents,

Linda

on the date issue

fire up Survey.

look at date fast (it soon covers up the date with "Averaging" when it has enough SVs). If date wrong, exit Survey.

Go into Utilities, GPS init. Set it for USA and your state (close enough). Hit OK.

This should fix the date problem.

Sometimes it takes two or three tries but 90% of the time once is enough.

I have experienced the eticking keys problem with several units since 2005. I just spray from a 40cm distance the unit with a silicon spray and then whip out the excess with a soft cloth. Keys will never stick again.

Just make sure that you see the correct day and time at the surveying application before starting to log. You can also have the date in every screen by using customizing the fields. If you have a wrong data/time, go to settings data/time and set the correct ones. Then perform a GPS Reset and a GPS init. This always works just fine.

PROBABLY not a problem IOANNIS

but, at least in the past, silicone spray would compromise some plastics
