Locus origin ?

I'm confused. I was under the impression that Locus was manufactured by Ashtech. Upon reviewing the Sokkia website I find that they also offer the Locus. Same animal except for operational software and data collectors. Can someone clarify for me please ?

What I understand is Ashtech built these under some agreement with Sokkia, who didn't have a GPS product. Something happened since then, and Sokkia is now lined up with Novatel, and Ashtech (thales) has taken up sales and marketing for the Locus under that banner. Same receiver and likely the same software, although I haven't confirmed the software part.

Bill E. post is pretty much my understanding also.

Ashtech has since upgraded the software from LOCUS Processor 1.x to Ashtech Solutions 2.xx.......

I think S and A were both selling the same unit at one time except the color is different.

I think S now has another similar unit but with a few minor hardware mods. they might still have some LOCUS units also.

Locus was designed and manufactured by Ashtech, and sold in both Ashtech and Sokkia versions. Ashtech also made a number of Topcon products in the past.
