State Plane Coordinates on Promark or 330
Posted By Jerry Shearon on 1/24/2002 at 10:39 AM

I have followed the recipe in the ProMark_NAD83.pdf file to the letter (I think) and still do not seem to be getting the right coordinates for my area. (Tennessee) I have used the info from the NOAA file for Tennessee.

Any clues as to what I may be missing? Are the settings as described in the scate factor and unit to meters fields correct as described in the ProMark pdf document?

Help!!

Tennessee is Lambert isn't it? Just curious because when I set up the values in our PM2's I had to "tweak" the false N and E to get the SPC to agree with the Lat/Long (compared to Corpscon). We are in Texas which is also Lambert. I know what I did isn't technically correct, but for our working area it seems to be very accurate. I had to adjust by about 30-50' in both directions.

Shawn,
It appears that what I was suffering from is metric arrogance. (Not on part, but that of those who wrote the insructions, since they don't give the instructions to set it up for feet) When I entered the coordinates for the origin point of the TN grid in feet and a scale factor of 3.28083333 we appear to be getting good positions on the monuments we have positions on here at the office.

On a different note, I have followed your posts and those of JD with great interest because I was the person JD dealt with when he bought the Locus system originally. I have always felt that he was very kind not to expose my ignorance about GPS, when I was to realize that he obviously already knew more about it than I did.

I guess I have learned a little since then, but each new revelation only serves to expand my awareness of how much more there is one can learn about GPS.
