I had a two-way radio installer firm make one and repair one last year, while I waited. Very reasonable cost. They are also available ready made on ebay, bought one this year.

Is a z-12 worth $100 , may not be working, no cables, etc. JUST the box.

Jimbo, I have a hard case with foam inserts, a 9 pin serial cable, two battery cables (one converted to 12v cig lighter, the other with a milspec 3 prong olive drab connector for the blue flashlight battery pack), and two of those flashlight battery packs here at the office. I used them with my M12 that finally stopped tracking last year...
The cabling is the same M12 to Z12...
Make sure you either see the Z12 working or get it cheap enough not to cry if it doesn't. The Z is still a good OPUS and static unit, just heavier and uses more batt juice.
I sold my L1L2 antenna from that kit to dangerous dave years ago....I bet it still works great...although he probably uses the compass in it along with a 16.5 foot rod to set scribed wood posts from his GPS points....:p)

is the e-bay one a "z"?
if that is what you are refering to?? I think the part # is given, one with proper knowledge should jump in.
if anyone follows these e-bay things? i was able to get the guy to sell me the z-surveyor with bat. & charger off e-bay for $2,500 (like "buy it now"). turns out to be mint. had about 9 files on the 20 meg card, starting 1-3-99 and last one 12-16-99. has the built in uhf radio. well bla bla bla, but thought somebody might be curious

i was duped by the old firmware, every file shows as 1999, bringing file into solutions shows actual date of 2005. have upgraded the version to zc10 and all is well

The Z-12 is no longer available. It only had 1MB of memory. There is another Ashtech XII on ebay. It has the older case with all the screws. I contacted the seller and he posted a picture of the back. It is an M-12 and has the old computer style pin connectors.

Jimbo,
You DO have a boat don't you? If it doesn't work you gots one nice anchor!
Double check that M12 cables being the same as the Z12 cables as there is (from what I can remember) an 11 pin and a 13 pin Fischer connector to the receivers....I do know the cable for my M12 will not work with my Z12.
Yeppers, the Bob Bills antenna is a sure 'nough museum piece! Thanks again Bob!
LPL--the M series were designated "Marine" due to being waterproof (or one hell of an old soldier) with the Fischer connectors ($$$$$$) and the "L" series designated for "Land" used the 9 or 25 pin regular computer type cables.
