I got a mag mount for the external antenna for the PM3 and was playing with it to keep track and map my travel around town. I thought when I got back I could download it and see it on the MM program somehow. All I could get is a point I logged. I can see the tracks on the unit but cannout seem to figure out how to get it on the PC. Also, how can I get the background map copied off the PM3 to use with my MM and GNSS programs for background maps? I had bought a Magellan Gold handheld unit about two years ago and wanted to download the same thing but never could find a way to do it or talk to a tech at Magellan to get these nifty details.
your MapSend Streets program for your Magellan Gold, most unfortunately, will NOT load to a PM3. That is the biggest complaint I have with the PM3. Absolutely NO navigational map support for a very functional unit. If you are real savvy wityh shape files (which you need to be anyway to get the benefits of units like the MM and PM3) you can go the the US Census Bureau site and find Tiger file maps that work nicely as a background map, altho9ugh I have not figured out how to get the road names to display.
As for logging your traveled route, did you open a "Job" in the Mobile Mapper mode, and log a "line" feature?
I am all for becoming more of a Shapefile Geru. I tried with some success to download one that I got from the Data Warehouse OKGIS and finally got the lines to come in (giant file that takes minute to regen) but I could not seem to figure out how to get the section lables to come in. This is all part of the Master Plan to do a State Wide Survey Accurate GIS system for all Section Record Corners with State Plane Coordinates on them. See my website on this at www.gbreisch.com - This may become a Nation Wide project and we need all the partnerships we can get to make this a reality. I am looking for funding from public and private sources - this will mean a giant boost in the economy by "having better maps" as our Miss Teenage America said, LOL, she made a better point "we need better maps to solve the problems" than most people realize.
I did save one yesterday but I was spending most my time doing my first Static with the PM3. I have a write up on that too that I can send you but I need to look at tht MMO file to see what it did. I noticed the tracks were not showing up after I did the static and switched over to the MM PM3 rover to see if it would show the tracks. It showed the two control points on the static session on the PM3 map but no breadcrumb trail between them when I drove back from the furthest one to the base and by the other control point shown on the map as a triangle symbol.
Page 235 of the PM3 RTK Reference Manual explains how to track your route/line. Also refer to pages 160-161.
