Mind me for being an ungrateful wretch, but could I have another almanac please?
The current one is August 31st and over 2 weeks old.
I've not found old almanacs to any less predicable than the unpredictability of new almanacs. If you must have a new pretty almanac, go to http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/gps/almanacs.htm
Ashtechs mission planng software does not recognize those file formats. Can the file formats be changed?
I guess I forgot to say please when I mentioned it last week.
I usually download one from a receiver. However, I haven't done any mission planning in a couple of years. Just let them dogs hunt, they'll finally tree...

It's not as easy to use, but at least they update the almanac daily.
You will have to create a user profile. The program is listed under Software & Firmware, Software Utilities, then select Standalone Mission Planning Tool
I concur with my fellow Mississippian Mr. JT, why not just park a receiver outside for say 30 minutes and acquire an almanac you can then download?

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Cuz we got Promark 2's and they don't report all the birds. On all four of mine Sat 11 won't show up. And they are EOL to boot, so we are SOL.
I guess someone appeased the Magellan gods. Day 261 is now available.

Jimmy, some one is reading your posts. Please complain about the removal of 'GPS Status' on CE, the many errors on the new GNSS, the inability to Bluetooth raw data,...................
It was me who put the almanac file there. I have not been made a god yet. I keep hoping. It would be interesting to find out what I could do with omnipotence.
Do not expect a new almanac daily. If it is less than 60 days old it is new enough to suit me.
The next NANU could make the almanac from this morning old news.
The lesson from June and July is that I am not the complaint department either. I want to answer technical questions about the way the tools work. I want you to use the tools as successfully as I do.
Thanks Phil,
A weekly update would be fine.
I guess we monotheistic type EOLers are concerned the service might be discontinued.
Phil
thanks for all the almanacs.
I downloaded it this morn. Then open MPing just then!!

If you guys will poke me once in a while this Silly Old Bear will wake up and put a new one there.
I thought maybe to set one day each week to do the job but... Ask a firefighter about how to schedule tasks. My life does not fit in a PIM.
I did a very cool ProMark3 Mobile Mapping project using the ProMark3 RTK as the base. They recorded raw data at the same time for comparing real time, post process, and static survey results on the same points.
Very interesting! I am excited about doing this even more.
Is it possible to convert a YUMA or SEM Almanac to be read by Planning?
A SEM Almanac is all ascii alpha so it would be easiest.
Not that I would use such a feature. I am not adverse to turning on a receiver inside my office if I want a current almanac. SEM and YUMA almanacs are updated weekly I believe, but even a daily alnanac is useless if you do not pay attention to NANUs on predicted or unpredicted outages. For instance I have an almanac for day 260 from my office receiver, which lists 7, 10 & 32 unhealthy. The almanac from the ftp site is day 261, it lists 10 & 32 unhealthy. 7 was unhealthy from day 229 to 260. 10 has been unhealthy since day 236, but they set it healthy Tuesday afternoon.
If you don't sign up for daily and special updates from the Coast Guard even the latest almanac can give you misinformation.

The Mission Planning that comes with MobileMapper Office and GNSS Solutions provides for the use of alternative almanac files.
There are things I would change about that Mission Planning software. But it will use alternative files.
Both MobileMapper Office and GNSS Solutions are available for the cost of your internet connection and the time required to do it.
A file that is a month old, combined with information from the NANU, will probably reveal as much as can be determined from a file recorded this morning. But that is just me mumbling.
...version of Mission Planning says it can get SEMA almanacs to work. When I pick one Planning crashes.
I still use Ashtech Solutions Mission Planning.
