In the Dec. professional surveyor,( I know, a competing magazine)
there are ads for an Ashtech Z-Xtreme, with no price shown; the Rascall 8, which claims to be 2 frequencies for
$ 6550.00; and the Ashteck Promark 2 system on the rear cover for $ 3,995.00
We anticipate using this for larger boundary projects, and for establishing state plane coordinates for route surveys.
We have been seriously considering acquiring a GPS system, and would greatly appreciate this board's expert comments on which way to go. Our budget will not allow us to buy a dual frequency RTK system, as we are a small company, but we would like to start using GPs for our work in southwestern NY and northwestern PA.
Thanks for your anticipated help!

I have both Locus and ProMark.
If you might want to do some kinematic (a likely scenerio), get locus. If you only need static get promark.
If you want both capabilities & are really cheap, get one locus & one promark. Kinematic is a bit restricted, because the promark is preset for 10 sec recording intervals, meaning that a realistic kinematic observation must be at least 40 sec. If you have 2 locus, you can set the interval @ 2 sec, & successfully use an 8-10 sec. kinematic observation.
Happy trails!
