Geoid files
Posted By gary kuroski on 12/18/2001 at 2:58 PM

Is there a site where you can download geoid files that be uploaded into TDS Software for use with Ashtech Z-surveyors?I do not have the Geodetic module for Survey Link and thought there might be a way around that item. I was hoping to transfer the Geoid file to use for RTK surveying on setting control pairs.
Any help would be appreciated. It's amazing what you learn you don't have when you actually need it. Learn by experience.

Gary,

Have you tried contacting TDS on this? Thales (Ashtech) doesn't develop support files for them, so if they won't supply them, you need a s/w upgrade. Try Bill Martin at TDS.

Gary,

To work with Geoid 99 files, you must create a Customized Geoid99 Sub-Grid.
The original binary source files for Geoid99 are 4 Mb each, generally too large for the data collector. Survey Link w/Geodetic functions supports creation of these types of files.

Download the 30-Day Demo of TDS Survey Link w/Geodetic Module from TDS's Web site.

From the Geodetic Pull Down Menu, use the "Create Geoid Sub-Grid". Fill in the required prompts in this menu.

If your Longitudes are West, be sure to use "-" negative sign when entering your longitude.

Then use Pull Down menu under Geodetic, to "Transfer Geodetic Files", this will copy the newly created Geoid file over to the proper destination folder on the Ranger.

To utilize Geoid Modeling on the Ranger,
be sure to select Geoid Modeling in the Vertical Projection in the Settings menu.

Bob I am using the Husky FS3 w/TDS Surveypro with GPS version like" 4.3.2
Can i use the Geoid function there as well? It prompts for the Geoid under "Local Settings" in the GPS Setup menu.
