pm2

Recent posts and replies have indicated Promark2 to be working well for obtaining cm accuracy with 45 min. occcupation times.
Is any one using it as well for rougher location, say with 5 feet for test holes and general location of physical features, in relation to each other or local coords, not tied to SPC. I see where some people are using less expensive units for this, wonder if anyone is using PM2 for various uses.

I am guessing you are referring to autonomous positioning via WAAS correction. I (from experiece) would not depend on WAAS for anything better than 20'. You can certainly do better as the average does seem to get better over a longer time. From my experience 1-2 minute position average can be as close as 1-2' or as far off as 15-20', with no indication as to solution quality.

By the way, so far the auto positions seem to hover around +/-10'. I have just seen it out by more.

Actually, using WAAS for positioning was to be my next question. Ideally, using that for navigating to the approximate location to start searching for that stone pile on the other side of the mountain.
For locations within a few feet, I'm thinking post processed data.
I don't know if there is any hope for WAAS in the mountains & forests of New YOrk.
Thanks for the input

Mapping with the PM2

There are some folks experimenting with the ProMark2 with very short sessions for mapping work. This is not in the book. Please remember that science projects need to be done carefully.

We have received our first tech support request from somebody who went over the maximum number of 100 files in the ProMark2. They said they had about 250 files in the receiver and were having some problems with the data.
