Ok, found Fast Survey on Thales FTP. (No info on Carlson's site on GIS-CE.) How do I install it on the MMCE and what limitations does it have being a demo? Works for 30 days? Limited functions?
Garry
Fast Survey in demo mode only allows you 20 or 30 points with full functionality.

Heck, that would cover most of what we would use it for! I haven't looked in the "Getting Started Guide" or User Manual, but I am assuming one tells you how to install it and where to install it to.
Garry
I have it installed now. How do I configure "Instrument" and "Com Port" settings? Should it connect to a Bluetooth port? Anything else I need to know? How about a Geoid file - where do I get?
Thanks
Garry
P.S. Getting excited about finally putting our MMCE to good use!
I just tried it myself. You need to set your instrument to NMEA GPS Receiver, COM2 57600 and then you are off... Also it may be of benefit to uncheck "Store Fix Only" (File/Configure Reading) as this receiver will never be fixed. Otherwise a Geoid will not be of much help as the elevations on this handheld are going to be WAY off. I stored one point and staked it out in a couple of seconds with a fill of 27 ft. Horizontally to within about 3 ft.
And as far as the Geoid you will need to get a geoid separation file (GSF) to at least get the elevations from ellipsoid to orthometric. But still I would probably not even bother with it...
for the Mobile Mapper CE. I just bought a copy. It's not published on their website yet. You will have to contact Carlson or a distributor/ dealer about it.
Only drawback to GIS CE that I've found, there is no "go to" function, or stake to a point or line. You can look at the coords, or entities on the screen and get close. "Close" is really as close as you can get anyway, maybe within a meter, if jupiter is in line with mars.

By the way, you can get a "fix" soultion by DGPS. It takes it a while to go from autonomous to dgps. My elevations have been within a few feet. Maybe I'm not using the term "fixed" right here, but there is a lot of difference in autonomous and dgps solutions with the thing.
