PM3 not making vectors w/ HiPer
Posted By Lee Green on 12/5/2005 at 8:16 PM

My last two projects using the PM3 have had at least one session where Topcon Tools created NO vectors between a PM3 and my HiPer GPS. Last time I shrugged it off since it was 15 minute session and possible had a problem. But today I had a 44 minute session with the PM3 that shows NO vectors at all, had two HiPers running. Since I'm down to just one PM3, this was a completely waste of time. I'm thinking this problem may relate the time offset John Francis is speaking of, but from this screen shot you can see that my sessions clearly overlap.

I then RINEX'd my HiPer data, and try it with GNSS solutions. Not what I want to do.

Well that does NOT work either. GNSS solutions says my HIper Base file >Failed to convert DSNP raw data file "BASE9.05N" : no navigation file<. Two of the HiPer files imported fine, Two others failed with this message. What's up with that?

Maybe I'll have better luck in the morning.

John did not have a time shift problem.

He just did not realize that our software will either work in GMT time or local time, and he got them mixed up.

I am not familiar with your processing sw, did you try to Rinex your hiper data and bring it into GNSS?

Mike,

That's what I thought. But this simple project is giving me the most grief. Luckily I shot point 10 with the RTK, a 4 minute Hiper session and the 44 minute PM3 session.

1) Why is the PM3 failing to create a vector to my HiPers?

2) Why can't I import the Hiper into GNSS solutions?

These guys are NOT playing nicely in the sand box, that would be snow pile around here :)

I can email the RINEX and RAW files for the project mentioned above to anyone interested.

I don't have a ProMark3, a Hiper nor TopTools. And I haven't stayed in a Holiday Inn express in a long time.
But Solutions doesn't process a file with a site ID of ????. If that is the site ID you gave it when you recorded it then you might try to rename the site to something of 4 characters instead of ????. Then rinex that pup out to your TopTools.

Just a thought?

Dave,

That's they way Thales creates a RINEX file from a Promark. Data missing from header like Id, Ht and Antenna. You may be correct. I think it could be the way Thales RINEX converter is writing the data.

I did manage to get all the RINEX data into GNSS Soultions. Importing the RINEX files works only if I toggle OFF "Copy files into project folder before import". No idea why that works. GNSS Solutions does create vectors to all my receivers, and I get similar results as Topcon Tools 4 minute session and RTK for point 10. Just can't figure out why I have to use GNSS solutions. I really don't want to pay the $1200 for the L1/L2 key, which I'm now borrowing.

I downloaded Lee's files

The files made good vectors for me.

The Copy files into project worked for me too.

You can add things to the RINEX file using the Additional info button.
