Locked Up Locus
Posted By Terry Strickland on 9/20/2001 at 11:03 PM

Tonight I was downloading some files into solutions and got a message "error downloading file- try again later" or something like that. The file light was on on my reciever, and I couldn't turn the reciever off. I finally unscrewed the battery compartment and got it turned off. My ephemeris disappeared & my file had a new julian date and I've got some really screwed up data. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with a Locus receiver?
thanks,
terry

Good morning:

Are you able to load your LOCUS files into Solutions at all?

Please make sure that the filename extensions are the same on the B and E-files i.e. ".JDD" where "JDD" is the Julian date. Also make sure the first part of the filename is the same in each case, except for the "B" and "E".

Try downloading one more time and see if the results are better.

If you want to send me the files I'll take a look and see if they can be salvaged.

I can get an ephemeris for you from the CORS site if you can't get your ephemeris to download.

As for the LOCUS receiver, was the power getting very low when this lockup occurred?

If you want us (Thales) to try to recover these files and inspect your LOCUS receiver, please contact

rmaprocessing@ashtech.com

or call 1-800-922-2401

Otherwsie, I would recommend doing a full reset on your LOCUS, checking the power indicator, and logging a small test data set for at least 30 minutes near your office before doing another job.

BR, Richard

Thanks for the info. I just lost a couple hours of kinematic work on a road, shot it in with conventional survey. I dunno what happened. The batteries were fairly fresh, less than 8 hours, may have been a bad batch. I'll try a test observation this week. If problem persists, I'll send the unit in for a check. Maybe just one of those fluke things that happen to electronic gizmos.
thanks again,
