MM Office raster background images
Posted By Scott Partridge on 6/28/2005 at 4:41 PM

I've been working with vector files to date and finally thought I'd try adding a georeferenced raster image as a background into MM Office 2.60. (I've been using a competitor's product for this to date).

The TIF I have is georeferenced... this is shown in the map editor dialog when I add the image file to a map project and save it. The image georeference properties viewable with the map editor are correct.

When I exit out of the map editor, no raster map is available to be attached to my job.

I'm following the instructions and I've read the background images faq on the Thales FTP site. The image is definitely georeferenced to the same coordinate system that my MM Office project is using.

What am I missing?

Let me know when you get it working. It's been on my back burner. I spent a few hours and couldn't get anything to work.

I use AutoCAD after exporting my GIS data, so it isn't a big deal, but I would use it if it worked.

The whole background issue in MM is problably the only thing I really don't like about MM.

I can't get the setting scales or anything to do much good.

I would think when you load a background image or vector maps, then MM would NOT load the standard thing they load which causes goofy things when zooming out to far. Everything dissappears.

I haven't complained since MM does all that I need it to do, which is to process the data and export the data.

I have followed their instructions to a T, but have yet to see an aerial in MM Office.

Deral, problem solved

Charlie Branch from Thales emailed me and offered great support, including the suggestion to upgrade to MM Office 2.70. The document outlining the enhancements to the program notes that Geotiffs are now supported.

I uninstalled 2.60, installed 2.70 and now all is right with the world... well, wrt to raster background images in MM Office anyway. It works fine now. If they could only give me a way to capture screen dumps from the MM.

BTW, thanks for the phone call yesterday. It was great to talk to you, even if you do talk funny.

I really do have to make a trip down that way sometime soon to meet up with you and the Stumpwater boys.

Love to have you Scott, just afraid that you might melt if you came down now. :)

Thanks for the conversation and the tip. I'll go download 2.70 and give that a try.

Shawn. Scott and I decided to do an experiment and let all of you decide. I'm going to see Scott in the winter and he will videotape me using snowshoes.

Then he has to come here in the summer and water slalom ski.

Should be interesting as long as both our insurances are up to date.
