Doug
I too work in the Coles County area. I find the PM2s a great tool to add that won't break the bank. My entry into
GPS came about when in southern Cumberland county I had to find the bearing of the section line to stake a point
240' from the corner. My opposite corner was 1 mi away (1/4 in river) on the other side of the river. I had to
traverse along winding roads up and down hills and hollers across the nearest bridge with trees covering the road
(July). Got so pissed off at the day and a half it took me to traverse and comp just for that 240' bearing, I ordered 3
units the next Monday. If you are working in Champaign co. you can see for 3-4 miles (flat as a pancake) and
probably shoot quicker w/ts. GPS would work perfectly in the flatland but would take longer unless you have a
good handle on S&G. Follow the procedures in the manuals and you will have much success. Starting another river
survey tomorrow. Think I can PM2 my points in 1 day that would probably take me 3 days of traverse. If nothing
else they are great for closing open-ended traverses to check for blunders around those dam rivers.
BUT since it appears you are my new competition I suggest you use a K&E transit and a 100' tape.

I knew only the best and brightest people hang out here. Yeah, I may be the new competition, but today's competitors are tomorrow's sources for corner ties and emergency help. Besides, I don't plan on taking over the world anytime soon, just readying myself for retirement from the "other" job. By the way, thanks for the input on the Promarks, they are highest on my wish list. Good luck and maybe our paths will cross somewhere along the way.
