on a z-max receiver , that is. what, if anything, should be done about it? the message acrosss the screen said"antenna overload". the manual says it is drawing more than 150 ma.which prompts the message. if it matters, it was in the middle of a static session. i had'nt seen the message before.
A short?
Examine the antenna connections. There may be a bit of metal that is causing a short between the outside of the connector and the center post.
Look for things that seem to be bent or broken. Turn it upside down and see what falls out.
It could be any of the components that cause the problem. If you cannot fix the problem figure out which one is the problem by swapping components.
If something is broken get it repaired.

thanks phil. i unscrewed the antenna and checked all that sort of thing. everything looks clean and un-damaged. i had not taken the antenna off in months since i carry it in a padded case all as one unit.i did send in a request on the link you provided.
update: now i screwed the antenna back on, and the receiver will not detect it.

Every time I've had this problem with my Z-Surveyor I reconnected the cable and it fixed the error. Though sometimes I noticed that the 3/8" to 5/8" BNC converter on the end of the cable was not fully screwed on. All else fails I would try using a voltmeter to test the line for continuity. Might be a short in the line.

Well . . . if the problem's changing, then it's gotta be something that's changing.
Sounds like a cable-thing.
I had the same problem. Just take a q-tip with some alcohol and gently clean the connectors on both the receiver end and the antenna end. Do this to the Vortex antenna as well. Then, be sure that the antenna is aligned properly and tighten her down. Hope this helps.
