Hey New Kid on the Block
You owe us an update.
J.D.
Well,well,well...to quote Steve Goodman "I've seen my name a few times in the phone book..." but to have a thread named after me...I am honored, J.D.
The Locus is working great...mostly...I got my third reciever, as I already posted...but I had to send it back to Ashtech for the following problem...the satellite light would come on red and stay red for a looooooong time...like 15 minutes...then start blinking red and finally...start to blink green and record data....this happened not every time...but maybe 85% of the times I used it...I could set it up next to one of my other recievers and the "good" one would aqquire lock and start recording in a matter of a minute or so.,..and the other would not...so I talked to some nice folks at tech support and they suggested...and I said yep...already did that...left it on for over 3 hours one night so it had plenty of ephemeris data...so back it went...Now I am down to two...but they work fine. Just a bit slower to get redundant observations...
Results have checked very well against total station data...like on the order of 0.01 to 0.05 feet on horizontal and aabout the same on vertical...now I think that is very good...with centering and set up error...realistically...which one is right? And 0.05 to 0.08 vertical on a 1000' shot is ok by me...and that is difference between the Locus answer and the Geodimeter answer...so I am very satisfied...but as you told me in a previous post J.D., I now want to use it on all my jobs...or more correctly it is all I want to do...is GPS work...let someone else do the stake outs and topos...Fortunatly we have a ton of big boundaries and aerial control surveys to do...so I will get to use it..
Thanks for asking...Tom Bryant PLS ST Louis MO
Tom,
Glad to hear your "hooked" like the rest of us. As for your problem... you'll be fixed for sure. Been there myself...same problem. Fixed 100%. For me it was more of a problem of withdrawals. I think in the short time I was without, I had a severe case of Locus gps "D.T.'s". You still have two units so maybe you won't suffer too much. (lol)
