mixing leica & promarks
Posted By mark whynot on 8/5/2004 at 10:04 AM

We are trying to use our single freq. Leica (AT201) with our promarks.

We have created a rinex file from the leica but now have two problems when trying to process it in solutions.

I do not have the ant. parameters for the AT201 and also a S file was not created by the rinex convertor.

any suggestions.

I tried a few times to return your call.

The most official source of antenna parameter information I know about is the antenna calibration web page at

http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/ANTCAL/

I did not find the AT201 on their list so you may have to visit with the folks at Leica for more information.

Information about how to put the numbers for the antenna into Ashtech Solutions is in the manual. Examples of how to do it are on the ftp server at

ftp://ftp.thalesnavigation.com

As far as the S file is concerned, you may be limited to using only the B and E files. My guess is that you could use the Leica tools for base stations but using them as Stop&Go rovers may not work. Use your field notes to get the SiteID's and antenna heights into Ashtech Solutions if they do not come in from the B files.

I have a Leica AT202 antenna which I have taken apart. The key antenna component is made by MicroPulse, so they may be able to help. The AT201 has a similar case to the AT202, so I would use the AT202 L1 phase center information from NOAA until I new better. This should be very acceptable if your are doing location work, and also close enough if you are doing elevation work.

Since any good GPS network should be redundant, occupy your Leica points with a Promark and vice versa. Solve the redundant set independantly so that Solutions doesn't mean out any elevation differences until you can confirm your assumed offsets in the dirt. As Phil says, Solutions can work quite well without an S file as long as you have good notes and input manually.

BTW, what is at the other end of that AT201?
