Is it possible to do the first half pk observation on a point for reinit then make kinematic observations off of that init point and follow them up with the second half pk observation thus allowing one to establish a previously unknown reinit point during a kinematic session in the space of about ten minutes? Would the processor (v1.2) accept this?
Shawn
My guess is not, but you're in unknown territory on this one. As far as I know, nobody's tried.
Thanks Brian, we will probably make a test of this sometime also. I think if it works, it could have some benefit. I wonder what Jimbo has for us?
Shawn
Shawn,
Nothing yet.....
Stuff won't process but I think it's my machine.....less than 200M free on hard drive for windows to play in.
need to clear up some space in the am and then try.
I skimmed the book and didn't see it but is there some sort of rough calc. for free space vs length of session or points ?
Like if I have 336 points, how much room do I need to process it ?
Jimbo
Shawn,
I suspect one is going to spend longer sorting out the processing software issues then it would take to just collect additional field data.
That being said, if you have data and field notes from a test session email it over and I'll take a peek.
Jimbo,
Sadly, no hard and fast rule for required disk/memory space. I've used
6*(base+rover files) in the past but with the newer op-systems it is anybodies guess. I always keep at least 5-gig free and haven't seen any resource problems.

CS,
Thanks for the info. I kinda guessed there is no "rule". I looked for "deleteable" stuff and welllllll, I'm just gonna have a new 900MHZ AMD with 30G and 768Ram ready in a day or so. Built it over the weekend and just need to add software now.
Jimbo
Finally found time to finish up the software installs...almost.
Just a fast and nasty looks like everything will process. It was the lack of Hd Space causing a problem.
Now its raining like it ain't never gonna stop.
Jimbo
Hello Jimbo,
Hopefully, the rain will give you some time to sort out what should or could be the "current" HW/SW driver for the applications and devices that needed to run yesterday (and won't) :-)
Best thing to do with new boxes, is when all is well, back it up twelve ways from sunday and then start adding "real" data archived as you see fit. With the core program/application install covered and the real data seperate, bad things that can and do happen are not "quite" as bad. Never "compress" a drive.
Also, if relying on CD's for long term storage make at least two copies and check the integerty of the copies before deleting the data on the hard drive. See if you can read the CD's on several different computers.

CS,
Thanks for the advice. Everything is up and running a-ok...except for my get-up-n-go. Been lazy this past week or so..just dragging a bit. And since I had the topo in GPS and with a TS well... the job is finished but the PK xperiment is not complete.
Backups....gotta ya beat there....

PS. It's my site so that is where some time and energy have been going. Not really "marketing" yet, still a coupla very minor things to address. Try it, right now it's free for a while, but you have to register...I don't want anonymous to poke around too much on my machine.
