MobileMapper/Solutions conflict?
Posted By Steve Douty on 4/29/2004 at 10:21 PM

I own and have been using ProMark2s with Solutions 2.6.

I just purchased a Mobile Mapper and installed Mobile Mapper Office software.

Today I did a ProMark2 project with the following results:

1)Came back to the office and started to download the ProMark2 data using Ashtech Download 2.6.

2) When I use either the connect icon or the connect option under file I get an error pop up window that is labeled "Server Busy" and contains the following message: This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Chose the 'Switch To' To activate the busy program and correct the problem.

There are three buttons under the message:
Button 1 - "Switch To" - Selecting this button produces the same results as selecting the windows "start" button would produce.
Button 2 - "Retry" - Selecting this button gets me an error pop up window that is labeled "Ashtech Download " and contains the following message "X" Create Dispatch Interface Failed: Server Execution Failed" Followed by an "OK" button. Choosing the OK button cancels the process and puts me back in Ashtech Download.
Button 3 - "Cancel" - This button is darkened and can not be accessed.

3) I get the same results if I try to get to download through Solutions.

4) A system reboot did not help.

5) A router reboot did not help.

6) A CTRL-ALT-DEL showed that the only application active is "Ashtech Download".

7) Other software that uses my server is functioning fine.

8) I get the same results when I try to download to the C drive (not the server drive).

Please offer any suggestions. I have a handful of receivers with a project I can't get to.

Thanks,

Steve

I doubt it has anyting to do with the MobileMapper.

My guess is ActiveSync. That's always the culprit.

Do a Control Alt Delete and go to the Task Manager, then Processes tab. Sort by clicking on the Image Name box at the top, and look for WCESCOMM.EXE. If it's there, highlight it and hit the End Process box.

Then go back to Solutions download and I bet it'll work.

I'll second the activestink suggestion, and further suggest that if you do have activestink installed, open it and uncheck the box next to "connect using" (the com port you use).

Add a me too from me too. I have MobileMapper and Ashtech Solutions both on multiple computers with three different operating systems. They live in peace with one another.

But I have to remember to tell ActiveSync and PsiWin to turn loose of the ports if I want to do business with a GPS receiver.

Thanks for the information.

I look in my task manager and do not find ActiveSync, WCESCOMM.EXE or PsiWin.
Any other suggestions would be helpful.

I was wondering if perhaps you have both Mobile Mapper Office and Solutions running at the same time. They won't share the COM port; the first application to grab it will retain control, and all other applications are out of luck. The solution (pun intended) is to shut down the application you're not using so the one you want to use can access the COM port.

As per instructions from Phil, I downloaded and instaled "GPS Tools".

My download software has been cured.

Thanks to all.
