I'm trying to get my new Meridian Color to understand the Lambert State Plane Coordinate System for Washington State.
Here's what I entered:
Latitude of Origin: 47.000000N
Longitude of Origin: 120.833333W
Latitude of parallel 1 : 47.50000N
Latitude of parallel 2 : 48.733333N
Scale Factor: 1
Unit to meters conv.: 3.28083333
False east at origin: 01640416.0
False North at origin: 0
Here's what I get displayed:
016-61-339E
000-35-700N
Nad83 User Grid
My NAD 83 position is 48d02'59"N and
119d54'45" W
I must have units or something screwed up.
HELLLPPP.!
Dan
on the "other board"
change your setting for "Units to Meters Conversion" to 0.30480061 (the reciprocal of 3.28083333333)
I checked your other parameters....they look proper for Washington North Zone
Just be sure you did a long enough initialization session to let the unit "find itself"

Thanks J.D. We already tried the reciprocal without any improvement. It has initialized properly and we've checked against known coordinates (Lat-Lon) Any idea what the goofy readout is trying to tell me?
016-61-339E
000-35-700N
The goofy readout is telling you that you're at:
35,700N
1,661,339E
in your state plane system.
If that's not correct, please email me or post here, and I'll email you some step by step instructions.

i think he got it
you do have to admit, the dashes really screw with you the first time you see them
ain't the internet great
Here are the two files with detailed instructions: This will work for a ProMark2, Magellan Meridian or SporTrak, or a Thales MobileMapper.
Sorry, too tired for html links, here are the files:
http://www.mikemargolis.com/ProMark2_NAD83params.pdf
http://www.mikemargolis.com/ProMark2_NAD83instr.pdf
The first file is available on NGS' website, I just cut out all the math and left the state transformations. The second file is on Thales FTP site too.

I think we have Dan up and running (on another forum). Seems the problem was the display of the SPC's with the seemingly out of place dashes was distorting the "user interpretation". I'd bet he's o.k. now.....
I'm OK all right -- my forehead is slightly dented, however.
