Z Extreme RTK projection
Posted By Fernando Gomez on 6/15/2001 at 6:06 PM

I have a new Z extreme RTK system. It's excelent, with centimetric precision On The fly ( after loosing SV ) and fixing centimeter solution in seconds. It' s really INSTANT RTK.
But, we are used to working with geodetic coordinates instead of grid, local grid or projection coordinates.

The new Ranger and Survey software is excelent too, but I can not stake points using geodetic coordinates. The system ask for a local coordinates or projection ethod at rover setup.

May I work directly with geodetic WGS84 coordinates without an horizontal grids coordinates ?

Fernando,

TDS is setup to run on Coordinates. These coordinates can be local assumed datum, or known State Plane datum (NAD27, NAD83, or UTM).

Input the coordinates in PT#, Northing, Easting, Elevation, Description format.

To more directly answer your question:
On the Ranger select:
JOB | SETTINGS | Projection:
Horizontal: MAPPING PROJECTION
Vertical: Geoid Modeling, or Localization.

Then,
SURVEY | PROJECTION \ Mapping Plane Setup:
select:
USA (NGS) -or- International
State Plane 1983
NAD83
Zone: California VI -or- appropriate

This method requires you to place your RTK Base Station on a known NAD83/WGS84 Control Point. Since you know PT #, N, E, El, we also therefore know the Lat, Long, Ellip Ht, Scale & Rotation.

This method will broadcast RTK data from the Known control Point. You would not need to "Localize" to get onto the local control system.

Also specify, you want to record Lat, Long, Ht in the RAW DATA file. All your Geodetic coordinates will be recorded into the Raw Data file. (Job | Settings | Measure Mode).

Contained in the RAW Data file will be the Point #, Northing, Easting, elevation, Latitude, Longitude, Ellip Ht, # SV's,PDOP,
HRMS, VRMS, Description.

Also, if your working on "MAPPPING PROJRCTION", the points detail menu will display NAD83 Coordinates & Geodetic Lat, Long, Elevation.

Excelent answer Bob, thanks a lot.
I'm using Zextreme at Argentina, where the national Mapping Projection is
Gauss Kruger Zone 2 ( Transverse Mercator with the following parameters,
Datum wgs84
False Easting: 2500000
False Northing: 0
Lat origin: 90° South
Central Meridian: 69° West
Long origin: 69° West
Scale Factor: 1,

How can I do to work with this Mapping Projection, like your explantaion using State Plane ( Nad27, nad83, UTM ).

Consider that we are working in other country and UTM is not valid.

I try to create a zone file using the TDS tools for PC windows, but the Ranger with TDS didn{t work with my file created for National Mapping grid.

Could you offer me, additional support, with this subject ?.
