Coding in PM2

I am demoing a 2 unit PM2 set and have a bit of a query..

While on site doing topo (Stop and Go mode) I used my usual codes FE - Fence W -Wall etc and in the point attribute screen these where coded FE01 FE02 etc by the PM2.

When I went off and did another feature and returned to FE, the PM2 again coded it FE01. After dling into solutions the software flagged that the codes were the same and suggested a new code 1001 etc. (duly assigned).

Is the feature code not numbered sequentially line by line. If not how are codes assigned unique identifiers?

Thanks

Sounds to me as if you are confusing "site ID" with "site name". The site ID is a four character specific ID for a particular point.
If you are used to conventional surveying, say traversing with a total station and a data collector, you give each traverse point-side shot an ID, correct? Now, when you close your traverse to a known point, you proably record that as another point number in your data collector with the descriptor of "TIEPT#1" or the such..then you can inverse and either the rodman buys the beer or you the bug and he's the windshield.
GPS site names work differently. If you start a session with your "base" at site ID 0001 and the "rover" (kinematic or static, it's the one you are moving around) at 0002, and collect up to say 9999, then if you happen to make a return visit to site 0002 you'd better call it site 0002. Don't give it a different site ID and expect to see "how close we got"...Solutions will give you this in the form of a repeat vector analysis.
I only mention this as hopefully it will help somebody out, cause don't think for a second that I didn't do it on day one!
