DOES SOMEONE MAKE A UBS CABLE WITH THE INFRA RED DEVICE (TO REPLACE THE SERIAL CABLE I NOW USE.)
AND WOULD IT BE FASTER DOWNLOADING LARGE LOCUS FILES?
Charlie,
I cannot comment on the USB IR device. Regarding download, A USB device would not speed up the download time. The download time is not being dictated by the IR, it's being dictated by the receiver. The current download speed is as fast as the receiver can support.

Belkin makes a USB Serial Adapter. This is a serial COM port connected via USB which eliminates problems with finding an unused interrupt. You will get much higher transfer rates through the USB port. You will have to set your receiver it's maximum baud rate to take fullest advantage. One thing, they are a bit pricey....($79).
I think I understand what Bill M. is trying to say per the Locus receivers. Here's an analogy direct from downtown Stumpwater USA: You can pop the top and pour the beer into a glass, or pour the beer into a washtub - it ain't gonna come outa the can any faster.
