MAGELLAN HAS DIRECTED ME TO ASHTECH FOR MY POST PROCESSING SOFTWARE FOR MY MAGELLAN 1000 PRO (SUB-METER), THEY CAN'T SEEM TO REPLACE THE DOS (NO LONGER USABLE) OR UPGRADE ME AND DON'T SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE. MY GUESS IS THAT THE SOFTWARE FOR THE MAGELLAN MARK X WHOULD WORK, OR THE LOCUS SOFTWARE, BUT I AM POSTING THIS TO MAKE BUYERS AWARE OF THE SUPPORT PROBLEMS NOW THAT MAGELLAN OWNS ASHTECH.
I'm no tech support, but is the problem due to the fact that you can not run DOS on your current machine? I run an old version of TDS easy survey under the DOS prompt of Win 98; I can't print from the TDS program but I can send it elsewhere (wordpad) to get the job done. It was either do that or find a 10 year old printer!
How about a very inexpensive 486 to run that particular software? Thoughts?
Good afternoon/evening:
Let's address some of these concerns.
The Magellan 1000 PRO is an obsolete product that is not Y2K/EOW compliant as stated on our website at www.ashtech.com/ There are no Y2K/EOW software upgrades available for the Magellan 1000 Pro. Using the LOCUS processor or any other post-processing software would not correct the fact that the Magellan 1000 Pro data is not Y2K/EOW compliant.
The follow-on product for the Magellan 1000 Pro is the Promark X series. The Promark X series uses the MSTAR post-processing software.

I purchased it only a few months ago and I was surprised to find that the MSTAR post-processing software was supplied on a set of floppy disks (which will not load). The unit uses enormous power, draining a set of six alkaline batteries in only a couple of hours, and there is no convenient way to affix the unit to a pole support or house it in an environmental case.
If Magellan does provide relief for any of these inconveniences, I'd love to know about them because the product is otherwise superior in its operational functions.
If Your discks are bad you can get no replacements at no cost.
Here are some accessories that are avialable for the current ProMark-X.
Quick Release Holder with U-Bracket. Part# 701390 $30
Bracket Mount Plate (for mounting U-bracket on Tripod or Rangepole)part #105605 $30
Battery Belt Pack and Universal Charger with computer style detachable power cord with 3 pin US plug Part #800636 $409
Sorry, that's "NEW" replacment discs instead of "NO" replacement
Hello:
Here are a few questions to help troubleshoot your MSTAR installation problem.
What error messages are you getting when you try to load MSTAR from your floppy disks?
What MSTAR version are you trying to load?
Also, what version of Windows are you using?
If you want new MSTAR disks there are a couple ways to get them. The latest version is MSTAR 1.06.
(1) Point your browser to the following address:
ftp://ftp.ashtech.com/software/mstar
Note that you also have to get the RINEX 1.90 converter that is in the Rinex folder if you want to convert RINEX files.
(2) Contact Ashtech sales at 1-800-922-2401 and ask for a free set of Mstar disks.

Correction: The latest version of MSTAR is 2.06, which I have running on my computer.
"Quick Release Holder with U-Bracket. Part# 701390 $165.00".
Magallen has an Error in their price List for the above item which we posted earlier at $30 list. I called today to order item, and they were supprised, so they are changing it today from $30 to $165.00
CAN THE PROMARK DO RTK? AND DO YOU NEED 2 UNITS TO POST PROCESS TO CENTMETER ACCURACY OR CAN U USE PUBLISHED DATA?
Hello:
No, it is not possible to use the Promark for Real-Time Kinematic.
You should use 2 Promark X-CM receivers for setting control instead of just 1. This is because you can then set your own control from known control points (such as NGS or other geodetic points) or from CORS (Continuously Operating Reference System) sites (if you have CORS sites nearby).
The horizontal accuracy spec. for PROMARK X-CM with DOP < 3.5 and at least 5 satellites:
15mm + 3 ppm
This means that at 20 kilometers from your base station you would expect about +/- 8 cm of error.
With just 1 Promark X-CM reciever you would have to depend on having a CORS (Continuously Operating Reference System) site nearby to get accurate results. Since CORS sites are usually spaced at 100 kilometers or more apart, this approach would be very time consuming and less accurate than using 2 Promark XCM's. So,it is not really realistic to use just 1 Promark X-CM.

Richard
