Dual Freq. Locus?
Posted By Nathan deAryan on 4/1/2001 at 5:14 PM

To the gurus at ashtech:
Is there a dual freq reciever available from ashtech that is about the same size and weight as Locus, and has the same simple software?

I want one with 12 channels +.
(15 or 20 would be better)

Sometimes 8 is not enough, as one is in the field with 100% sky view.
One is back in the trees with 25% sky view.
One is at the edge of the field with 60% sky view.

The vectors between the 60% and the 25% work better, because the one out in the field did not record some SV's that were higher in the sky.

In 10 - 20 years there should be 15+ Satellites available. IT will be harder than ever to get Sattelites in common.

Nathan,

The next Ashtech product upgrade from Locus would be the Z-Xtreme receiver. It's physically larger than Locus, but it's Dual Frequency L1/L2 GPS only receiver with a seperate GPS Antenna, rechargable L-Ion batteries & removable PC Card memory.

Capable of Static, Rapid Static, Kinematic, DGPS & RTK surveys.
Magellan also introduced "Ashtech Solutions Version 2.0" Software at the recent ACSM Conference in Las Vegas.

With the release of Ashtech Solutions V2.0 the Locus Processor S/w has been discontinued. The two seperate S/w platforms have been merged into one platform called Ashtech Solutions Version 2.0 It has the same exact look & feel as Locus, but has added Dual Frequency GPS processing, GPS & Glonass processing, manual processing of problematic data sets, Antenna Phase Center Modeling, residual Plot viewing, NGS Blue Booking and enchanced Reporting functions.

Will AS V2.0 henceforth be bundled with Locus receivers, and will there be a price increase for a Locus system?

To William,

When will v 2.0 be available?
How much to upgrade from 1.2?
(in your opinion)

thanx

Nate
